There’s more to Greece than just the Greek islands!
It is officially spring and you know what question you should already be trying to answer, don’t you? Where to spend your summer holidays! In case you haven’t given it much thought yet, our suggestion is Greece and more specifically, East Pelion of course! Why?
Well, today we’re giving you 3 reasons, all of which are about 10 minutes away from A Dream Deferred villa Pelion:
1. Plaka Beach: Plaka is a beautiful, distinct beach that’s rocky at some of its parts and sandy at others, forming mini pond-like coves on its left side. It is perfect for swimming, snorkelling, or just hanging out at the beach.There’s a beach bar with sunbeds you can use, but there’s also plenty of room for you to use your own umbrellas. You should keep in mind that there’s not much parking space, and the little that exists runs out relatively early, so in this case, “it’s the early bird that catches the worm”.
2 . Papa Nero Beach: Papa Nero gets its name either from a nearby spring with the same name or from a priest who, legend has it, drowned there a long time ago. It is a wide, sandy beach with blue-green waters and enough space to never look crowded. It spreads out for many metres and offers changing cabins and showers for free, (but be careful, the water comes down straight from the heart of the mountain, which means it’s always cold). There are a few beach bars with sunbeds, but again, there’s plenty of space to set up camp with your own gear.
3 . Agioi Saranta Beach: Agioi Saranta is our own personal favourite, an exotic beach with immense beauty, luscious greenery, and the famous Monk Rock looming on one side (named after a monk, apparently). To the far right there’s a kiosk where you can rent sups, canoes or sea-bikes. Swimming in those crystal waters will make up for the not-so-easy access to the beach (the road is narrow and kind of steep) Again, parking space is limited, for which reason it is best that you make it your goal to arrive at the beach by 10-10:30 a.m. at the latest, especially during peak months mid June, July and August.
Bonus point: If you’re lucky, and if you go early in the morning, or stay until after the sunset, there’s a chance you might spot dolphins playing in the waters on all three of these beaches!
No matter which one you choose, one thing is for sure: You’re bound to have an unforgettable experience!
