Food in Kissos is a tourist attraction in itself!
Greek food… 🥗🧆🥘 Need I say more? 🤤 A lot of you have tasted it, loved it, and want to taste it again, whether on the Greek islands or in Mainland Greece 🇬🇷, (And those few who haven’t, have certainly read or heard about it… for many, Greek food ranks No1)
Well, if you find yourself in Pelion and at A Dream Deferred villa, you’re bound to (re)live the Greek food experience, and one of the best places to do that is Kissos village. The food would only add to the many reasons to visit, some of them being the luscious forests, the amazing beaches and the stunning nature and architecture, among others. Kissos has some of the best restaurants in the East Pelion area, something you can discover for yourself on Tripadvisor. Besides, its reputation as a gastronomic heaven has spread so much that even visitors who haven’t booked their stay in Kissos (they do realise their mistake, but a little too late 😄) make sure to at least have lunch or dinner there… (Please note here ✍️ that you can easily leave Kissos at the end of your holidays with a few extra kilos… – you have been warned!)
Some of the dishes you’ll find there: Souvlaki, mousakas, gemista ( tomatoes & peppers, stuffed with rice and mince or raisins and so on), tzatziki, dolmadakia (stuffed vine leaves), roast lamb, but also, spetsofai (a local delicacy cooked with local sausage and peppers🌶 🫑), wild boar 🐗 hunted right here on Mount Pelion, kontosouvli, (like souvlaki, but with larger chunks and juicier), kokoretsi, kotsi (🐷 leg), and don’t get me started on sea food 🌊… ( after all, the sea is just 10 minutes away). The list goes on and on!
But, what about breakfast? There are so many choices available to you that the only difficult thing would be to choose… You can pick between sitting down at a table and having fresh, free range eggs🥚, tiropita, (fried, feta cheese pie), handmade, local marmalades and jams, pure, local honey in many different flavours🍯, homemade cake e.t.c., and buying your breakfast to go from the local bakery, which prepares various types of pies like tiropita, red pepper pie, pumpkin pie, zucchini pie, milk pie, vegetable pie, spanakopita (spinach pie)🥧, koulouri Thessalonikis, (a little like a pretzel) and so on. You could also choose for yourself cold cheese and meat sandwiches, crepes, or baked sandwiches (or as we call them here,”toasts”)
