You know when your Google account is a mess, your Google Drive crammed, and there’s no more room for photos? Well, I reached that point today… 🤯 Google photos insisted that I should tidy up my account. As I was deleting, however, I came across 3 photos from 2018, when we first made our decision to host… our 2nd bedroom, before and after a total make-over! I had honestly forgotten what it looked like… In the beginning, the room had to be re-designed from scratch:
First, we had to think about the decorative style of the room – contemporary, vintage, Scandinavian, boho..? Obviously, boho-chic/ boho-scandi won🏆
“Wait”, you’ll say, “what is boho-chic/ boho-scandi, anyway?”
Boho-chic, much like boho, is a style that’s very expressive and relaxing, using natural elements such as wood, clay, lots of plants (real or faux) and handmade items and mixing different textures, like rope, wool, cotton, -faux- fur and so on. The difference with simple boho is that boho-chic uses more neutral tones, like natural wood tones, cream, off-white, and beige, along with more “coordinated” lines and shapes. Throw in a little bit of “scandi” or Scandinavian, (monochromatic textiles, sustainable wood, art, and a little bit of macrame) and you’ve got what we had in mind for this room.
(Back to the make-over)
We decided on placing 3 beds to increase the guest numbers: 1 queen, plus 2 twin beds. But then, inevitably came the million-dollar question: How can we fit the beds, so as to avoid a “stuffy” feel? It took a long Pinterest 📌 search to come up with a solution, but nothing seemed to fit! Also, compact, hotel-style furniture looked too cookie-cutter and impersonal… We had almost given up and opted for 2 bunk beds, when a good friend of ours urged us to keep trying… we said to ourselves, “When there’s a will, there’s always a way,” and then, just like that, inspiration came! 💡
We simply took advantage of the walls and had floating beds installed, spreading the three out on 2 levels… That’s not all! We wanted the room to be unique. That’s why we designed the rocking bed ourselves, to double as a mini playground for all ages. In fact, I’ll bet there’s no other bed like this! Mmm… What else? We wanted the room to reflect cosiness, but also adventure… that’s why we had removable, wooden ladders installed, as well as rope ones! And, we DIYed, among others, 2 floating shelves to serve all 3 beds, plus sockets, and a light switch for the upper beds.
Add a little bit of greenery🌿, such as floating ivy plants decorated with fairy lights hanging above the headboard of the queen bed, or the ivy twigs climbing up the ropes of the floating beds, and you have a cosy, inviting room that’s pretty unique. This was exactly what we were hoping to achieve for our guests, so as to offer them a unique experience…
We know the room is a hit, every time our adult guests first gaze upon it and go “Awww”, but even more when our little guests literally can’t wait to climb up the floating beds -they run up there, the second they see them! 🏃🤸
Wouldn’t you? 😀
